Pros

Nice people, laid-back atmosphere. Management is approachable.

Cons

No feedback - good or bad from many partners. No mentoring. No employee relations problem solving. My position is NOTHING like it was advertised.

Advice to Management

Pay attention to whether or not staff or associates are miserable and try and solve the problem rather than ignore it.

    Pros

Some wonderful people work as staff. They work hard and play hard and do not get near enough recognition from the attorneys who run the firm.

    Cons

Staff is expendable and it is evident in the very many rounds of lay-offs every few years. Morale is low and every non-attorney is stressed beyond measure not knowing what day will be their last. The firm will have a cycle of lay-offs and then advertise for those very same positions a few weeks later, or hire temps who will work without benefits. They have reduced staff to an almost skeletal crew where now secretaries are given an average of 5-9 attorneys to support - and if you only get 5, you are considered lucky.

    Advice to Management

VALUE YOUR STAFF and STOP THROWING GOOD PEOPLE AWAY!

    Pros

Employees are nice and friendly. Time off and holidays are pretty standard - 18 days a year "flex" time for full time employees. 10 paid holidays. Compensation as far as salary is competitive for the firm's size. Nice choice of elective benefits.

    Cons

Training is horrible. Opportunities to advance are hard to come by. Any advancement or new job position is accomplished through formally applying for the position versus being promoted based on performance/merit. Bonuses for staff are $200 at holiday-time, no matter how long you've worked at the firm. HR is non-responsive unless you're an attorney. Medical and dental are partially paid for by the firm.
