I have been working at Procter & Gamble as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Learning and growing as a leader is a natural byproduct of being here. Employees are extremely intelligent, benefits and compensation are decent. There are many opportunities to network, and the company makes an effort to make you feel welcomed and comfortable with your work. P&G is also a leader in almost every industry they play in. Flexible with work ing from home as a full-time employee. Strong values that are more than just lip service.

Cons

Very political, extremely slow decision-making process results in a lot of no-value-added work. Lots of bureaucracy, risk-adverse, people are set in their ways and are not willing to accept change even though they are expecting you to make change. On the reverse side, sometimes things are fine the way they are, but P&G insists on wasting extraordinary cost and effort to try to change it. Downsizing has resulted in many layoffs, reduced company morale, people leaving the company, and too much work for too few people. Work life balance really varies by group and only seems to be heading in a negative direction. There are no "clock in" hours but many people end up regularly working nights and weekends. As an intern, there is very little group work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make an effort to communicate with your employees better in order to understand the real problems in the trenches rather than fix things that aren't broken.

Great Company IF You come in at a Management Level

I have been working at Procter & Gamble full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Recognizable brands, mostly smart people, well respected company, good culture, tuition reimbursement, work from home opportunities, slightly better than average pay, flexible work hours, pleasant working environment. Benefits are decent.

    Cons

Promote from within culture is only true at certain levels. Moving from A&T into management roles is next to impossible, regardless of your rating, and only becoming more difficult.

The company is leaning out, which has resulted in more work with less people. Highly rated D level employees are now doing work that was classified as Band 2 (two BIG promotions above D) as recently as a year ago. Often times leadership considers employees ready for management level work and responsibility, but not ready for management level pay.

Additionally, lackluster employees are given too much slack and are often passed from organization to organization. This leaves top performers picking up the slack from layoff's as well as carrying some of their dead weight teammates.

Movement in mid level management is too frequent and breeds a culture of constant change and unfamiliarity with roles. Some VP and directors are too far removed from the businesses they lead, this can result in their goals being force fed to the rank in file, regardless if the goal align with buisness needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more from within and slow down on the 22 year old "top talent". Employees who are proven, with degrees from equivalent schools as the B1 hires, are leaving and rightfully so.

    Show non producers the door.

    Stabilize middle management.
