I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Everyone is super nice. Regional managers even know your name! They really take care of their employees. For example, I have only been working there for 6 months and we have done so many things. We had "olympic" games. They took us to a Phillies game which they paid for. They are always bringing food into the office. And they are planning our Holiday party soon. Also there is a lot of advancement in this job.

Cons

Work is long hours 8-5 with an hour lunch. You are sitting down all day staring at a computer and answering the phone.

    Pros

It pays the bills. Or comes close.

    Cons

Senior mgmt will NEVER have your back, unless you are marked for "big things".
Claims adjusters are treated as scapegoats.
Expect to be the sacrificial lamb with these people.
Expect to be caught in the crossfire between the mgrs of two different work groups, and DON'T expect your mgr to support you - he'll find a "coaching opportunity" for you, regardless.
They "give" you the tools for success? As in, CCU transfer claims, any excuse to not be an Exceeds file, ridiculous documentation notes, being held accountable for a deductible, rate increase, another employee's error that shows up in a customer satisfaction survey called NPS?
Tools to frustrate you and NOT give you pay raises, is more like it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come down to the real world once in awhile, instead of focusing on which country club or golf resort your next "leadership/managers conference" will be at.
Try supporting your Direct Reports more - manning up - instead of avoiding confrontation at THEIR expense.

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to work from home for some employees, campuses are big and have a nice cafeteria. Health Services department is friendly.

    Cons

Supervisors/Management cannot provide you with answers that are in line with one another. There are grey areas in many of the job duties, answers for customers are not accurate in guidelines due to missing information to complete the job. The programs are ever changing daily and you cannot get the same answer twice if you call operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Politics are becoming a huge issue within Progressive. You are either willing to take on more responsibility without pay raise, ( Snapshot Assist) which entails taking escalated calls and concerns, and working regular policy issues along with answering other employees questions and taking the calls they do not want to handle. There should be a pay raise with increase in job duties especially moving from a regular customer service rep to snapshot assist. The position is very difficult as the program is still new and confusing, considering the guidelines are still not all worked out. The program has very big issues in reference to reasons insured do not receive discounts for using the snapshot device. It is difficult to trust the company that you work for when you cannot feel good about a program they are running, as it slights customers, answers from management like, just tell the customer that the hard brakes are too many ( when there are like 4 hard brakes in a six month period total, is completely ridiculous. Try handling these calls multiplied by 60 daily due to the high call volume issue because guidelines are poorly written, and new employees rarely go to guidelines to review. This is a not fair to the reps who were put into the position of snapshot assist with no ability to decline and no choice but to take the position and hope that there would be an actual SNAPSHOT ASSIST JOB OBJECTIVE to be put into place, with their own title and paygrade. This needs to be changed.
