Pros Entertainment Services – “Good entry level job, have gotten exposure in the field that other companies would not provide”
Pros
It is like boot camp for wedding photographers/videographers. You get longer hours and less pay than other companies (300/ 8 hr day vs. 500/ 6 hr day for shooters). The work is steady, making up for lower compensation with greater volume. If there is a complaint from a customer, they are in your corner when you can support your position and don't penalize you for first mistakes.
Cons
They work on razor thin profit margins, offering services at the lowest possible pricing point. They depend on volume and containing costs for profit. They nickel and dime you on travel expenses - no compensation for driving 50 miles each way to a job, and minimal above that, doesn't even pay for gas, much less wear and tear on vehicle. Considering expenses and depreciation on all the gear I have to buy, my take home is 2/3 of my pay. Haven't gotten a raise in the many years on the job.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider creating levels of compensation in recognition of professional achievement/length of service.
Don't squeeze nickels at the expense of keeping competent, trained people.
