I worked at Public Consulting Group

Pros

The structured PCG Education program is very helpful for people who have just graduated college. It allows for new hires to learn now things and hit the ground running. PCG works with you to build the skills that are necessary for your job.

Cons

Depending on which practice area you are in, there aren't always lots of young people which is something that many people look for in a work environment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest that PCG diversify their recruiting efforts to include a wider range of college campuses in order to find the best candidates for the job.

I have been working at Public Consulting Group

    Pros

Generous annual performance bonus (generally 7-15% depending on rank), holiday bonus, 15-20 days PTO to start, great location and opportunity to earn an MBA in 2-years tuition free with a one year post-grad commitment to the company.

    Cons

Burn out is high. Management claims to promote a healthy work-life balance, but when an employee admits they can't handle consecutive 60 hour work weeks, or asks for assistance in getting some tasks done, they're told to "figure it out". Plan on taking work home every night, even after you've put in 10+ hrs in the office during the day.

Extremely professional dress environment, ties required - no options for corporate casual.

Compensation is 20-30% below what other area consulting firms offer - and the workload is easily 15-20% more than what you'd have somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about your approach to growing the business in some of your practice areas. I understand profitability is important, but you're biting off more than you can chew. The more contracts won with no additional hires or resources added will only add to the workloads of a staff that's already stretched thin and ready to break. You need to fix all the holes in the current processes and contracts, then when you have things stabilized - come back with a vengeance and crush the competition with every improvement you've made.

Your best and brightest are quickly burning out don't let the programs go down in flames with them.

I have been working at Public Consulting Group

    Pros

Co-workers are great people to be around they are probably the only reason we keep coming back.

    Cons

They will work you like a robot, it’s all about numbers, supervisors are degrading and insulting to employees, and when it’s taken to higher management nothing is done about it. Supervisor asks us to look the other way when you become aware of fraud just to meet you monthly numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house in your upper management/ supervisors in San Diego, and start over again, please send your Consultants again to San Diego and have them interview your hard working employees confidentially and in private. You guys have great hard working people that are willing to take this company to the next level, but you’re supervisory and management team is running them down to the ground
