Public Storage – “District Manager ”
Pros
Decent pay after stock starts to kick in.
Benefits are ok for a single person.
Lots of autonomy.
Great multi-unit experience.
Great facilities, security, safety management experience.
Very liquid company.
Cons
Goals and expectations are very unrealistic.
Corporate office is very disconnected from the field and have no idea what we do.
Zero work/life balance and it gets worse the longer you are there.
Regional Managers (your boss) do nothing except approve expense reports and have no purpose in the organization.
The company has no idea what they want.
Everything is pass/fail, with DMs set up for failure constantly.
The audit process is the biggest farce I have ever seen that lacks credibility, relevance, and objectivity.
The Property Managers are the most incompetant people with no skill-set, however the company expects results you would see from college graduates.
Advice to Senior Management
With the exception of a few, there is no promotion from within, creating an environment in which upper management is out of touch with what is really going on in the field. How many Regional/Divisional Managers could do the job of the DM?
