Public Works and Government Services Canada – “HRSDC - Service Canada”
Pros
- Most people are friendly.
- Hours are good.
- An open door to other and better things within the government.
- Nowadays team leaders are really professional and personable.
- Some co-workers are very nice.
Cons
- Competitions are a joke and most are rigged.
- Contracts are preposterous. They hardly make you indeterminate. Your hard work is just to make management look good and instead of motivating their employees they use these impossible clauses on a contract so they are able to lay you off as needed.
- Being laid off and rehired all the time is stressful.
- One of the worst departments to work for in the Federal Government (only loses to Correctional Services)
- Low morale, some co-workers are really two-faced and permanent employees will slack off when terms are doing most of the work.
- Will keep term employees that disrupt the peace, are negative influences and unsettle the work environment with their immaturity and paranoia.
- Union will fight mainly for permanent employees. Term employees are kind fo left in the wind midway into a grieving process.
- Team leaders changed more than 8 times in 2 years: no teamwork due to dissolving of teams several times a year.
Advice to Senior Management
- Make the hard working employees permanent after three contract extensions, within 3 years tops.
- Cancel once and for all ridiculous clauses such as "The Suset Clause"
- Management should try to look less High and Mighty and talk to us, common folks, from time to time.
