I worked at Publishers Clearing House

Pros

Flexible work schedule
Beautiful neighborhood (Near the water)
Cafeteria (Complimentary drinks)
Stores and lunch spots within walking distance
Americana shopping mall within short drive
Pay for classes if you want to brush up on your skills
Long term employment (majority of employees have been there for decades)

Cons

Very old-fashioned points of views
Non-ambitious crowd (anyone who is career driven or college grad usually quits after a year)
Decor is about 40 years old
Employees are majority women (approx 40-65yrs old)
People are very comfortable, too comfortable....attitude, professionalism, clothing, time management
No room for career growth
Not challenging work
Non stimulating products and target market
Management in all departments could benefit greatly from a management training course each year
All employees could benefit greatly from a communication class each year (too many erratic personalities and no one preventing this behavior)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try seeing the tremendous value in having an intelligent, dedicated, ambitious employee working for you. Management is intimidated by this type of employee for various reasons. Support your staff, praise them when necessary, give them opportunities to be challenged. The policies and procedures that are currently in place are not a combination for success and should seriously be assessed. Good people are being hired and then leaving ... why does't anyone see this pattern? PCH could be a great place to work if the "lifers" would retire and then career focused, forward thinking professionals could replace them.

Publishers Clearing House... transition to PCH2.0

I worked at Publishers Clearing House

    Pros

If you're into 'quirky industries' this is the place to go. In the company's heyday, it was very lively and and supportive of it's employees. Hours are good and pay is competitive; this is definitely a place where, if you tried hard, you'd be recognized for your efforts.

    Cons

It's a very '1992' vibe; it seems like the company culture stopped developing in the mid-90's. Because of the market they serve, and the medium they use - they are 'stuck in the past'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time researching the next generation of your customers; I'm sure you'll find that that segment - older people in the 'Bible belt' are alot hipper and tech savvy than you give them credit for.
