I have been working at Publix

Pros

i like working at publix because i am a people person and love to talk and share information with others in the deli i learned about the nutritional values of the products we are selling and i am a boarshead fan and love selling the product as well as our own publix products and i like to see the smiles on the coustmers faces when i can make there visit to our store pleasureable.

Cons

when hired i went to a two day class to prepare me for the job but when i reached the store it was different it seems that the rules and regulations are bent broken or not used in certain stores few people do things the correct way they like there way this is a management problem that reflects on the employees no one wants to address the issue, i think everyone should abide by publix policies

Advice to ManagementAdvice

make sure all employees for your particular dept are held accountable to following the same rules and not have 14 people each doing things a different way because they say they did it that way in the store they may have come from the employees need to be re-educated on rules and regulations publix came up with not that others made

    I worked at Publix

    Pros

Benefits, training, employee owned, coworkers, scheduling for part timers, advancement opportunities...
Great food, respected as an employer and for its training, customer service, pharmacy, and fresh dept. offerings and the best in wedding cakes! Made from scratch products still rule, so trained and well paid workers needed for these positions unlike other dumbed down operations.

    Cons

Hard physical labor, not a desk job...can be difficult for some and can allow for occasional injury on the job. Newbies often relegated to the very hard night shift...understaffed, overworked, undertrained....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire newbies to work and train beside the old guard during the day for at least 3 months to develop them as knowledgable and confident associates...would go far for the evening shoppers who lack exposure to the most talented of the crew who work day because of the nature of the food prep scheduling.

    I worked at Publix

    Pros

    -You don't do much.
-You get to know frequent customers and sometimes they give you things...like candy. (strange, yes. But true)
-the computer system has made it easier, you do not have to memorize produce codes anymore
    -fellow employees are pretty friendly.

    Cons

    -cashiers get dirt pay.
-no tips, the baggers (who technically aren't supposed to get tips) will get them (almost 100 per day if you choose your customers correctly).
-you will get yelled at if you scan too many coupons.
    -

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-don't yell for coupons. It's a recession, if the customer has coupons....they can use them.
