Pros

Terrific people and good benefits.

Cons

Very focused on being #1 w/JD Power. Say they want to cultivate their people but little hiring and promoting from within. Little growth going on. New president has been there two years and just cleaned house. Very little sense of cohesiveness at the top. Look at their web site and the jobs listed there - most are old. There are no management standards so your experience will vary depending on your department. Some are wonderful, some not. If you choose to work here, remember the work is highly specialized and not particularly useful elsewhere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to retain knowledge and cull knowledge from generation retiring, promote from within. There is a growing number of new employees in mid-level roles learning from upper level with the lower level stagnant.

    Pros

The jobs at Puget Sound Energy pay a living wage. The hours are family friendly. The work is challenging and rewarding.

    Cons

The rules that govern attendance for all of the customer service division are draconian. You can not be abscent for an illness lilke a cold or the flu without facing disipline. A doctor must approve your abscence and a long drawn out process is required to even get an excused abscence, It is almost impossible for some of the employees in customer service to get vacation time when they want it. Vacation hours are available on various Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, but don't expect to be able to get a three day weekend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give back the retirement plan that was available before the company was sold to the investment company and valuable employees will stay until retirement and feel valued in a way the are not now valued.

    Pros

PSE is a good place to work. The work is meaningful because electricity and natural gas service is vital to economic activity and life. Many don't realize it but the utility industry is one of the most complex, challenging industries to work in. There are many great people that work at PSE.

    Cons

The utility industry is going through a tough period of change. With less demand growth projected in the future and more emphasis on price, the utility is having to think about changing processes and becoming more efficient. This will be a tough change of course to navigate for the company.
