Former Employee - Manager in Bellevue, WA

I worked at Puget Sound Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Good work-life balance and benefits, strong commitment to green energy and the community, decent compensation.

Cons

PSE used to be a very warm and friendly place to work; however it has progressively gotten colder and more "corporate". The culture has become impersonal and is lukewarm at best, which is a real shame. Many hard-working and dedicated employees have left in droves and a number of well-regarded leaders (at least by their employees) have "retired" and been replaced unceremoniously. Decisions are not transparent and communication is lacking. Trust in many departments, including my former department, is very low.

    Stable place to work

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy

    Pros

Stability - the company is privately owned so it doesn't fluctuate much with the market. Work/life balance - most managers are great about letting employees work from home or alternative work sites if they need to. The benefits are fairly good and the employees are friendly. It has a family feel.

    Cons

There are many people here who are resistant to any kind of change. Innovation is slow. The older generation who has been in the industry/company for 20 years doesn't trust or respect the younger generation. The rate of pay and merit increases aren't competitive of the market. Those who are just coming into the company are getting fair pay but those who have been there longer are stuck in the lower pay bracket. Upper management is unwilling most of the time to make off cycle pay adjustments to those who deserve it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The managers should be able to approve off cycle pay adjustments for their employees since they manage their own budgets. They shouldn't need VP approval.
