Pros

Great people in my group. There are opportunities to work on projects outside your department.
Benefits. Location.

Cons

Some politics in how people are promoted. Often times people are told they have a job before it is even posted.
Management is hit and miss. There are some real down to earth great managers and then there are those who use the steamroll approach with little regard for casualties.
Often times management asks for feedback and then doesn nothing with the feedback. It is as if they are checking a box "done" with no intent to make process improvements.
Took raises away from all staff in 2010 and probably no bonus in 2011.
Some senior level mang. are very innappropriate.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinstate raises. When you ask for feedback listen and do something with the feedback. Review hiring practices with a little more scrutiny, especially internal candidates.

I have been working at Puget Sound Energy

    Pros

Some very talented people work there. Employees are genuinely very interested in making the company better for their customers - pretty much everyone around.

    Cons

Overly heavy Director level of management, most of whom have been with the company many years. They are the real holders of power in the company and are also the main cause of so many "silos" responsible for often poor inter-business group relations.
One specific problem the company has is business units that run their own IT solutions without IT Department input, participation and (supposedly) support. It's IT's own fault, as they have historically been unable to provide the services the business units have needed, so the business units go out and buy what they need, hire consultants to implement it and get 'er done - until all the problems are discovered.
That whole problem has to be corrected or the company will continue to do a poor job capitalizing on their large projects.
The entire organization is outstanding at finger pointing. Useless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do whatever it takes to get rid of the good ol' Director club. They're not being held accountable for accomplishing things with other business units.

I worked at Puget Sound Energy

    Pros

Everyone in the department where I worked cooperated to get things done. There were none of the petty rivalries or office politics that make some places so frustrating.

    Cons

I would have liked to have known more about where things were going with the job. Other than that, I was pretty satisfied.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work as far as feedback is concerned. Everybody likes to know how they're doing, or how they can improve.
