Pros

Strong, transparent senior leadership. In a great position both financially and product offering for when the market begins to strengthen.

Cons

Home sales is a 7 day a week business. Weekend work is required. It is essentially retail so you must be in the office no matter whether there are customers coming in the door or not.

Advice to Management

As can be expected there have been many cuts in staffing. At this point only the top performers remain however there is little to no visible effort to retain them. Given the current market top salespeople are not rushing to the homebuilding industry. That being said, those who remain need to be paid more and given more flexibility of work hours or they will leave for those companies and industries that will meet those needs.

    Pros

If there's a spot for you in the company and the economy is doing well, this company will take really good care of you.

    Cons

When the economy is bad and houses aren't being sold, those that are left in the positions are loaded up with way more than they can handle.

    Advice to Management

This company appeared to have way too many upper managers where they needed more people at the bottom to handle the load that was left from all the layoffs. The ones making all the money did the least amount of work.

  2. Great place to work when market was strong

    Pros

Above average compensation, still some great people left.

    Cons

Management centralizing every function in the company in an effort to reduce overheads. Local divisions have marginal flexibility to run their business. Lack of local market knowledge within management teams leads to inefficient operations.

    Advice to Management

Real estate is still a local business.
