Departments are small enough that you can interact with co workers. But the university is large enough for a vary diverse field.

Cons

Just as working in a large company, problem solving between departments takes weeks to solve.

I have been working at Purdue University as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Minimal time commitment to help run the lab and you become better versed in ASIC design answering student questions.

    Cons

Sometimes a little frustrating with students just fishing for answers and not really wanting to learn.

I worked at Purdue University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Affordable cost of living
    - Great research opportunities
    - Reputable name translates to great networking opportunities
    - Many opportunities fore receiving funding for graduate school education
    - Excellent compensation (health included)

    Cons

It depends on who your advisor is, but, I had a terrible experience with my advisor who was unresponsive to any form of communication which resulted in the delay of my graduation. The department was not helpful in my problems. I had to resort to go the highest level, i.e. the grad school office to get it resolved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate better with students. Sponsor more work life programs for grad students.
