I worked at PwC full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Review for PwC Advisory practice: -Opportunity to work with very smart people (and in my experience, some really great people) -Good pay and bonus structure -Excellent opportunity for advancement (i.e., you should be able to double your income every 5-6 years...if you can last that long) -Potential for very interesting projects -Potential for international travel and work abroad programs -Excellent place to launch your career. You'll see more and do more than your buddies in industry (rule of thumb: every one year of consulting is like 2 years in industry -Very social organization with lots of team dinners and office happy hours -You get to travel

Cons

-Worklife balance is very much a challenge (they're are addressing this with flexibility programs but it's an up hill cultural battle -You work with very smart and driven people - it can be very competitive -Projects can be demanding -You may travel a lot...initially sounds like a lot of fun but you can burn after a year of continuous travel -Steep learning curve (the pace, level of stress, content and technical skills needed in a short amount of time) -Don't ever plan on working 8-5 with all of your weekends free

Advice to Management

Improve your process for sourcing project resources so that travel is not 80%+

  2. Get out what you put into it

    Pros

Lots of smart people. Some of the work can be pretty interesting. You are learning all the time and every project is different. Ability to do a variety of things and go anywhere in the world.

    Cons

The expectations for hours are through the roof. A lot of your time is spent doing menial tasks, ticking and tying, or jumping through internally created hoops. Flexibility is preached but rarely practiced. Rated against your peers so politics is infinitely important. Diminishing returns to scale of performance- the people who seem to do the best. "All stars" usually burn out after a few years. Pay before the sr manager/ director level is a joke compared to the time commitment expected of associates/ seniors.

    Advice to Management

Stop beating around the bush and blowing us smoke. Pay us what we deserve and we'll be happy. Why is performance emphasized so much in the rating scale yet really not rewarded comp-wise?
