I worked at QLogic

Pros

Well respected engineering talent and class-leading technology portfolio.
Operates in a duopoly
Financially stable
Not a huge company, but has a lot of resources
Conservative management style, fairly predictable

Cons

Because is so conservative, tends to miss or delay opportunities to enter or commit to new markets.
For sales people, is not a place you can get much upside. Quotas are adjusted hourly. (kidding...but they do adjust them during the year, which is dirty pool)
Entrenched management and board leaves little room for internal advancement "thru the ranks"
Will be ruthless in cutting entire divisions or culling lots of employees in re-organizations, often spurred only by the arrival of a new executive who changed a bunch of stuff, then doesn't stick around anyway - disrupting the lives of dozens of employees for no reason.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward loyal employees
Don't let new executives "put their fingerprints" on the organization unless they have a commitment (including penalty) to be there long term. Why should they get to fire dozens of loyal hardworking people just so they can bring in all their hangers-on from past jobs, then bail when things don't magically get better (like they had over-promised)?

Former Employee - Marketing in Aliso Viejo, CA

    I worked at QLogic

    Pros

QLogic had some great talent and good benefits. The pay was okay. The group I worked with was great and very supportive (except for one person).

    Cons

Good team with the exception of one person who would verbally attack team members and displace blame on them when she made mistakes. Upper management supported associates stabbing each other in the back, and often took actions without complete information or based on conclusions drawn on flawed information. Also management would look employees in the face and lie to them about strategy, ensuing lay offs, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the vipers in executive management. Replace with more ethical, knowledgeable people.

Former Employee - Engineering Manager in King of Prussia, PA

    I worked at QLogic

    Pros

The work is always interesting and challenging. Much of the work in King of Prussia is on the leading edge. Most employees are extremely knowledgeable and among the top in their area.

    Cons

Too much work, not enough people. Too much bureaucracy evern since QLogic purchased SilverStorm. Company had never figured out how to market/sell InfiniBand products. Wrong people put in leadership positions.

Managers are expected to be lead designers. Head of business unit puts 'safe' people in charge who won't challenge him.

I don't expect this location to be around past 2013

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes. You have a lot of talented people working for you. Get rid of the 15 layers of red-tape and let them be efficient and creative. Develop some product marketing for the InfiniBand group and don't let the product line continue to be under represented.
