I worked at QLogic

Pros

Good technology, financially successful, smart people, interesting customer base, decent benefits

Cons

Too OEM focused (creates a huge amount of business risk while at the same time mitigating some of the risk of non-OEM business. Its a trade off)
Too engineering driven and engineer centric to exclusion of non-technical staff
Management often disappoints with their decisions and policies
Surprisingly bad at some small and mostly routine operational tasks
Decision making process flawed and too time-consumptive - death by PowerPoint, endless meetings, and still no good way to collect views.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more proactive and visionary, and less reactive and conservative.

Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Smart Engineers.
    Broad product portfolio.
Good execution when driven by senior leadership.
For the most part monetary compensation is competitive.

    Cons

Reduction of Employee Benefits even though the company continues to stuff cash into its coffers.

Executive Management pocketing cash bonuses while taking benefits away from employees.

Management being out of touch with reality of customer and employee requirements.

Reactionary mode of operation and management.

Politically motivated work environment and management style.

Unfair division of labor where the hard working get more work while the deadwood continue to reap the benefits without much effort due to political connections and inadequate performance management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to realize that you cannot run this company as a struggling start-up when in fact the company has grown to a mid-size provider of strategic I/O infrastructure products to some of the biggest OEMs and channel customers around the world. Lose the petty mentality and focus on properly managing your greatest and most critical resource - your employees!!! Your cash in the bank is not going to do the work of your employees. Leave the politics at the door when you come in to work and develop the courage to let useless employees go. Hire competent employees rather than ineffective warm bodies just to fill the open job reqs. Promote a sense of unified culture throughout the organization with effective communication and regular interaction across all levels of the company rather than keeping the information and kool-aid within the ivory tower.

    I worked at QLogic

    Pros

    Great immediate management.
    Very interesting job
    Industry standard benefits
    Clean and nice campus
    Timely and objective performance reviews
    Interesting US and worldwide travel

    Cons

Executive management seemed to be very remote. They suffered from an inability to listen. Maybe they were just too far away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the ivory tower once in a while. You might actually learn that there are many interesting and useful things you can learn from your field staff.
