Dysfunctional company with a very real culture problem

I worked at QinetiQ North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

QinetiQ North America does provide reasonably competitive pay but has followed it peers in reducing benefits (health insurance, company contribution to 401-K, etc.) for several years. At a very junior level, the company does provide opportunities to get experience and skills at a very early stage in one's career. There are some very smart and talented people still working here so it is very dependent upon the group in which you are as to your experience.

    Cons

The culture at QNA centers upon telling management what they want to hear at all times if you want any hope of advancement and retaining your job. Unqualified people are promoted as serve as little more than "yes men" to the upper management. People sit in roles for which they are unqualified. There is petty fighting between groups that upper management does nothing to resolve. Management does not actually manage many things leaving employees to guess at what management want. There is a lack of decision making on the tough issues that occurs within QNA management and facts have little to no bearing on how decisions are made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management at QNA needs to look at how the products which they are now selling were developed and realize that their ineffective management is the reason why there is so little current product in the pipeline. Management also needs to realize that by consistently promoting and retaining unqualified people, they are driving away qualified people and making many qualified people wish they would be let go, with severance. The "yes men" culture with QNA is pervasive as is driven by the top management so little will change until they leave or completely change their method of operation.
