Really well organized

Former Intern - Engineer Intern in San Diego, CA
Former Intern - Engineer Intern in San Diego, CA

I worked at Qualcomm as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

I had a great team: mentor, technical lead, and manager.
Everyone was willing to help out. There were also tons of other interns there, so it was like being in a college town.

Cons

There really weren't too many cons! It is quite fast paced, but even for someone who barely could code in C, I was able to handle it.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much really!

Former Contractor - Test Technician in San Diego, CA

I worked at Qualcomm as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

They really take care of their employees. They provide free drinks to employees and are always having team building events. Some times there is even free food. The leads I worked with were very knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone was very friendly and easy to work with. I was disappointed when my contract ended. I still maintain contact with former coworkers and would go back to Qualcomm any time.

    Cons

Most if not all entry level positions are Temp. jobs lasting one year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am not sure letting go Temp employees after one year is the best strategy. It seems you are loosing valuable experience.

Current Employee - IT Staff Engineer in San Diego, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Qualcomm has a great work-life balance if your manager permits you to take advantage of it.
The medical benifits provided are great!

    Cons

    No integrity in IT Management
    No recognition for new employees
Tasks/Projects/Milestones accomplished are not communicated up the management chain, especially in IT. Instead, the manager will take credit for great work and accomplishments and has at least one level below to blame when things don't go as favorably.
Very secretive and cowardly promotion and bonus/perk structures.
Will actively deny or make extremely difficult the ability to transfer internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT Management needs a complete re-haul. Pay the price to get AND KEEP good quality engineers and leaders.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
