Really well organized

Former Intern - Engineer Intern in San Diego, CA
Former Intern - Engineer Intern in San Diego, CA

I worked at Qualcomm as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

I had a great team: mentor, technical lead, and manager.
Everyone was willing to help out. There were also tons of other interns there, so it was like being in a college town.

Cons

There really weren't too many cons! It is quite fast paced, but even for someone who barely could code in C, I was able to handle it.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much really!

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Qualcomm has a great work-life balance if your manager permits you to take advantage of it.
The medical benifits provided are great!

    Cons

    No integrity in IT Management
    No recognition for new employees
Tasks/Projects/Milestones accomplished are not communicated up the management chain, especially in IT. Instead, the manager will take credit for great work and accomplishments and has at least one level below to blame when things don't go as favorably.
Very secretive and cowardly promotion and bonus/perk structures.
Will actively deny or make extremely difficult the ability to transfer internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT Management needs a complete re-haul. Pay the price to get AND KEEP good quality engineers and leaders.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Qualcomm as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Some of the smartest folks in the semiconductor industry

    - If you want to gets hands dirty with low level work like computer organization, processors, compilers and operating systems and advanced communication protocols like LTE/4G , this is a great place to start.

    - Great benefits as interns and as full time employees.

    - Learning curve is steep, mentor/manager system per intern , guidance and training is good.

    - Company is doing well. Very positive outlook for the next couple of years.

    Cons

    - Large organization and hence has uneven distribution of good work

    - Senior engineers tend to do most of the good work and interns complete the housekeeping stuff. Atleast it felt like that way.

    - Software division slightly takes a backseat over hardware division. Pay and bonus is higher for design engineers.

    - Too much work to kill your work-life balance

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    Approves of CEO
