Pros

There's a reason why Qualcomm is often listed in Best Places to Work surveys. Management makes sure to listen to employee concerns, needs, and wants, in order to improve working conditions as well as work-life balance. At times, they are even proactive about introducing new ideas to make working at Qualcomm better. Not only that, working at Qualcomm gave me the opportunity to work with and learn from very smart and experienced people in the field of wireless communications. Since many of these people are the pioneers in the field, I was able to get a sneak peek at upcoming technologies--and everybody was open and willing to share with me. People (even some quite senior members) are generally happy to chat, no matter how busy they are.

Cons

Since it's a large company, sometimes it seems that an individual's contribution does not impact the company much. The managers do try, however, to recognize the contributions, even if it doesn't eventually pan out.

Advice to Management

Keep listening to the employees, and they will continue to pay you back with great work and quality products.

    Pros

    1. Outstanding work-life balance! Company policies are geared toward providing great facilities for its employees 2. Love San Diego campus 3. Mobile technologies are on continuous growth path

    Cons

    1. Mgmt (IT) is politically astute but morally corrupt 2. Company's sudden growth and generous policies have resulted in several old timers staying way past their competency periods. All that these people do is gang-up and play dirty politics to ensure no new stars shine in the company 3. IT is a small, insignificant blip on business mgmt

    Advice to Management

Time to pump in some fresh blood in top mgmt levels. Would do well to retire the old timers who don't have the "fire" anymore.

  2. Helpful (2)

Lot of work and sometime redundant work, always fire fighting mode

    Pros

Good technical talent and cutting edge technology, fast paced and folks take pride in their accomplishments. Decent work life balance and lot of training courses for internal training.

    Cons

Low growth opportunities, politics and favoritism, management not focussed on employees growth and creating new challenges.

    Advice to Management

Make necessary changes in management to align the teams to achieve the goals, listen to employees at all levels and encourage an open culture for new ideas and improving things. Reduce politics and buddy system, find the true performances and value creators and reward them. Management shouldn't reward fire fighting or senior management whose style is just yelling and screaming....
