I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Flex time, nice people and easy workload

Cons

Costly benefits, continue to downsize, no perks, ceased pension plan and no 401k Match

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper Management are all buddies. Some left RR Donnelley to work with competitors and came back due to the old buddy system. Need to let some of them go. High salary for some who sleep in their office.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

In the plant and company wide, there are many good people to work with who really care. Pay is good but benefits are substandard.

    Cons

At the plant level, management is ineffective and immature. Favoritism is prevalent! Open door policy is ignored. On off shifts, employees are not supervised and can get away with anything. No teamwork. Employees are hostile and burned out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plant level management needs to be cleaned out and skilled, experienced management brought in to revitalize the plant/employees and eliminate favoritism. Open door policy needs to be followed and all employees should be treated the same and held to the same standards by management.

I was able to keep my job of 5 years.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This corporation didn't immediately shut down the small local printing company they acquired. They waited a couple of years.

    Cons

Poor training. Lack of diversity when hiring and promoting people. Not being honest about company roadmap. Planned to close down the facility that i worked at from day one, but needed to acquire the knowledge and skill set to produce some of the products. Expected the workers to use faulty equipment and blamed them for poor production results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

none... The local company was shutdown after R.R. Donnelley learned how to produce the products that we had been making locally for years.
