Former Employee - RETAIL SALES SUPERVISOR  in  Parsippany, NJ
Former Employee - RETAIL SALES SUPERVISOR in Parsippany, NJ

I worked at RB

Pros

Good Benefits, 401K, Medical, Dental, Vacation, holidays, etc.

Cons

Little to no recognition for a job well done. Personal initiative is never appreciated, even though the company claims to be interested in individual ideas. Quick to layoff, regardless of company profitability. Does not consider cutting costs through decreased raises, bonuses, trips, and fancy sales meetings. Would rather cut heads than find alternative methods of saving money. Poor work-personal life balance, 60 hour work weeks typical without any offer of comp time. Human Resource Dept is untrustworthy, they do not support the employee but senior management. The employee cannot share any issues or problems witht HR, which is very inappropiate.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Monitor your individual Directors to assure they are doing the right thing. Put employees first!

Great company for your first job out of MBA school, but not the best to work later in your career.

    Pros

Training at early stages in your career like right out of MBA school. You get great general managment experience, heavy P&L and analyitical experience.

    Cons

Once you've worked at other companies, you realize that Reckitt is an intense environment, you are expected to be married to your job. Working until 9 or 10pm on a regualr basis is normal. Also, unless you are working in the Food division, the brand categories are very boring and not very exciting. There are TV media budgets on most brands, but shooting a AirWick or LYSOL ad is not too exciting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve the work-life balance.

Current Employee - Team Leader in Parsippany, NJ

I have been working at RB

    Pros

Multicultural exposure, Well respected Brands, Career Growth Opportunities, Great Bonuses (Normally 20% - 40% for sales managers), solid strategic sales plans

    Cons

Horrible work/life balance, Great bonuses come at a price - massive work load, Promotions are based on performance but workaholics generally have the upper hand, summer hours offered but many can't take due to work load and fear of being labeled a slacker, World HQ in Britain has a very tight control on US business; especially dealing with product innovation and launch decisions, Hiring managers working in US favor others from their home country - special projects & career opportunities, too lean on manpower, Reckitt flies by the seat of it's pants; many new items are presented to customers prematurely and then canceled; making reps look like fools, constant (over)-confrontation and brow beating is encouraged but gets old

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect employees mental health - stop the burn and churn. Quit being chintzy on manpower and give us the resources we need to do an excellent job instead of having us fly by the seat of our pants. Over worked and lack of a life balance is not a badge of courage.
