I have been working at RCO Legal full-time (more than an year)

Pros

4 weeks vacation/sick time right off the bat, flexible schedules

Cons

A "parent" company was recently formed (Realty in Motion) to oversee the operations of all sub-companies - including Routh Crabtree Olsen, Northwest Trustee Services, FEI, RCO Escrow, etc. The main office is off the beaten path in Factoria, with nothing within a reasonable walking distance. Only tenured employees - mostly attorney's/upper management - are allowed to park at the office, otherwise, support staff are to park at an off-site lot. Each manager has a different view about policy, so different policies are followed different ways across the organization. The workloads are astronomical. Expect 10 or more hours of mandatory overtime every week with no end in site because they can't hire, train & retain people due to below industry salaries and a gloomy work environment. The general ambiance of the office is depressing through & through. No one here is happy. No one is social. No one wants to talk. Everyone sits down, stares at their computers, and immediately leaves after the work day. Speaking of computers, the mainframe used is completely out of date. They still rely entirely on an Access database to facilitate all of their files. The network itself is unstable, crashes a lot, and is a total mess. On the contrary, the computers used are brand new and very nice. They have no trust in employees - the company owns the entire building. It is FILLED with cameras at every angle. Even in stairwells, parking and general office/cubicle areas! You're being watched at every angle. But the cherry on top: the company looks at each work day as 8 hours - not a 40 hour work week. Therefore, if you work overtime on the weekend, and come Friday, have - let's say - 48 hours of "hours worked" but only work a half day (4 hours) on Friday, you have to use 4 hours of vacation time to bring your work day to a full 8 hours. So basically they're paying you 44 hours of regular time and 8 overtime, for a total of 52 hours. It makes absolutely no sense. You can't do make up time to leave a little early for a Doctors appointment then make it up the next day. Of course, this policy isn't clearly notated in the handbook; many managers follow it to make employees exhaust their vacation hours to make them work more. HR remains neutral about it because the handbook doesn't clearly say yay or nay, so it's manager discretion. It quotes "Employees are encouraged to use vacation hours in the event that you must miss work due to a doctors appointment, family illness, personal leave, etc." And, obviously, most managers are depressed and unhappy just like the rest of us. Overall, not a good place to work at all unless you want to kiss your social life & happiness goodbye.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay higher salaries to attract & retain talent, match on the 401(k) to retain employees, build training programs, expand the parking lots & turn them into first come/first serve - not a "tenure only".

    Pros

The manager's leave you be and let you work at your own pace, pretty lax with breaks and taking time off for family things if needed and leaving early for dr's appointments.

    Cons

Where do I start? First off, there is no parking at the office. The parking spaces are for people who have been there for awhile and who have "earned them". You have to park on a lot across the freeway and they shuttle you back and forth to your car and to the office. But if you have to run an errand or want to get away for lunch, you have to walk. But it also sucks because the office in the middle of BFE Eastgate/Factoria. Nothing is really close to walking distance. Also, there is only 1 microwave in the office for 100 people. 2 overflowing fridges, and no break room?! How is a company as big as this too cheap to have a big lunch room? Also, the training with this company is a cluster. As a new person, don't you think that this company would have a specific training team to teach you the ins and outs of the foreclosure business? You would think. Oh, and the whole entire company just seems depressed. Be a little friendlier to your newer employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so cheap! Get more parking for employees. Maybe a break room so people can escape the depressing halls of this job, and also--a training department. With the mandatory OT the managers have no time to train employees so I feel the whole team suffers. Most unorganized, depressing company I've ever worked for!

I have been working at RCO Legal

    Pros

Getting to know some Foreclosure and some Legal aspects of the job.

    Cons

The Management is very unpleasant. They have no management skills what so ever. The training is very confusing and you are supposed to know and pick up pace in in a few days. Its is not realistic. The communication between the management being of just (one person) and the employees is very poor. If you are very desperate, this company RCO legal in Portland is for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please give good training to your current employees or you will continue to have a HUGE ONGOING TURNOVER!!
