Current Employee - Sales Consultant in Phoenix, AZ
Current Employee - Sales Consultant in Phoenix, AZ

I have been working at REC Solar full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great inside sales department; screens and qualifies leads and sets appointments for consultants. All we have to do is close deals with leads collected by other people. Awesome installation staff with some of the best products on the market. With their business partnerships with Sunrun and Costco, REC Solar is a well-planned company with an impressive business strategy for long-term sustainability.

Cons

When sales consultants start, they are immediately 'In the Hole' to the company, unless you get 3 months worth of sales during your first month; your draw from commission salary plan is designed against you, so dont plan on being able to pay your mortgage or raise a family on this. Recommended as a stepping stone for entrepreneurs or someone working his/her way through school. As a company, they do have the long-term mentality, but lack the mindset for short-term results. Their finance offering in AZ is weak but that can be attributed to the market and leasing partners not wanting to invest here.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your consultants more; lower your ASP's. At least try to be competitive with other companies. Dont compare Arizona Consultants to their peers in California; its a completely different monster.

I worked at REC Solar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

*Many people join the company because it is one of the few ways they can live in San luis Obispo and work for a reputable company.
*Inside sales team supports outside team with leads... but expect to lead gen w/channel partners
*Their channel relationships really help drive the sales process and give REC a good reputation
*Solid reputation in the industry for doing good work
*After being there for 18months+ you can basically run the place
*Compensation is fair for the amount of work required at the sales level- after a year or two you can make $80-100k and work 25-30 hours a week.
*Teams are small and tend to hang out/have fun outside of work
    *Leadership is pretty darn good!!!

    Cons

*Job can be frustrating because competition is so fierce and resources are so low.
*A lot of promotions are done based on who went to high school/Cal Poly with who
*Very hard work and you have to be very good at always looking at the positive side
*Have begun switching to a more lean business model. Most salespeople are having to provide own vehicles and have a 'draw' against base.
*Was always suprised at how little administrative jobs paid
*Many of the young folks who helped build the company from scratch are jaded or have left

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

*Create more levels of advancement for employees
*take risks and dedicate resources targeting EXPANSION not just complacence

I worked at REC Solar full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good people to work for in the field.

    Cons

Horrible management. Currently managed by a tyrant rigime. They lie to you. There is currently NO stability there. Constant turn over from the CEO on down to field workers. Can't make a profit to save their lives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start acting like an actual contractor instead of a bunch of highly educated idiots with absolutely no field experience.
