I worked at REI full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Great discounts, awesome co-workers, great for outdoor gear junkies, good for someone who wants a part time job

Cons

Too much pressure to sell memberships. Not enough guaranteed hours, pay is too low especially when compared to management and the ratio of work to pay considering how much time the management spend in the office running their mouths.

I have been working at REI part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Casual atmosphere, great employee deals, fun to work for

    Cons

too many employees, not enough hours, understaffed shifts!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More people needed on sales-floor to keep up with the "excellent customer service" REI claims to be so important. Treating the day before Christmas and the day after Christmas like a normal weekday is a poor management decision. Hire less employees when opening a new store. Nearly every employee I have talked to is dissatisfied with the number of hours they work. While they do enjoy the atmosphere while they're working, once or twice a week is not enough!

I have been working at REI full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Laid back, quiet atmosphere with terrific work/life balance.

    Cons

REI moves at a very slow pace and doesn't take many risks. If you're OK with the status quo, you'll do very well here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time revisiting goals and objectives to make sure employees are performing work that's challenging and within their area of expertise.
