Great people, less than stellar tools, policies, and management

I have been working at REI full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

fun, friendly co-workers, most of whom walk the talk and love what they do which makes working with them fun. Passion is abundant here. The products and discounts are wonderful. Benefits are only ok.

    Cons

Tools are awful here, never have I worked with such non-intuitive, disintegrated systems. There have been some MAJOR bad decisions made with regards to brand and investment in infrastructure improvements. The level of staffing and thus responsiveness in the IT dept here is RIDICULOUSLY bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees better, your policies are outdated and your HR team is less than skillful. Take a step back and reevaluate the critical difference between an environment of retail stores and the headquarters. Employees should not have the same policies, the workplaces are VERY different. Be more strategic and thoughtful in the direction you are going. We are losing the beauty of the co-op that used to be REI.
