I worked at RGIS part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Hourly work easy to find during college winter and summer breaks.

Area and District Managers have cars paid for by the office, as well as insurance, and gasoline.

Area Manager and District Manager possible to reach without any college education at all in just a few short years. I personally know 2 people that went on to be Area Managers after only being with the company 18 months. So the ability to work your way up is still possible with this company if you have the desire.

    Cons

For hourly workers: Early starts and often you'll have late finishes due to understaffing of many stores. You'll also have to spend those long hours either on your knees, or climbing ladders. You know how tall the aisles are at stores like Home Depot? Well, you'll be climbing up there. Don't expect it to be clean either, and you'll come home a filthy mess. Wages now are based on average per hour, which only a handful of people exercise legitimate speed. Most hourly workers will just "batch" to get high APH's, and thus higher pay.

For Area and District Managers: Expect to be on call 24/7, and even possibly get called during the most intimate of family events with the expectation of coming into work. This is no exaggeration. RGIS runs a lean ship, which means Area Managers are often working 60 hours a week and sometimes substantialy more. When my father was an Area Manager, 20 hours of work during January in a single day was fairly frequent, happening about 2 days per week. District Managers have it a bit easier as far as work hours, albiet much more stress on penny pinching from Regional Managers and above.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to retain your hourly employees longer. Too much time of this company is spent on training. More time investment is required on training new employees than retaining old ones. RGIS is a functional case study to this testament.

From someone that used to run stores for you, I know what your profit margins are and generally what the averages are. You're a very profitable company, and there are ways to even improve this without the small-time penny pinching. Give employees a reason to stay, and I guaruntee that APH's will improve which directly affects your bottom line on profit margins for most stores.
