Pros

The best reasons to work at RAX in SATX used to be the autonomy and trust built into support, giving us the ability to deliver fanatical support.

Cons

There is no accountability. Managers thrive on pockets of autonomy producing results, and when they do, the management is rewarded. When you want to know how we're doing, you can either listen for internal back patting, or Google how we're doing to hear it from our customers.

    I worked at Rackspace

    Pros

Team outings, free coffee/tea/soda, reasonable compensation for the San Antonio market, Senior Leadership (C levels) generally makes good decisions for the company, giving back to the community "Rack Gives Back", overall benefits are great.

    Cons

My personal experience in Sales has shown the following (though not speaking for roles outside of sales)
internal promotions seem to be based on something other than merit. Possibly longevity or who you know.
resources to sell not always readily available
lower level management not great at development of their people
mid level to VP level management seem to focus on numbers and lose sight of the people which can make this job impersonal

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

career development/advancement should not be handled by direct managers but rather an unbiased 3rd party (hr?). This will allow for better documentation and less gaps when a manager leaves or someone is transferred. Mid level managers and VPs should not lose site of the people - they are what drive the business.
