Pros

30% Discount on RS brand name products, Low rates on employee cell phone service.

Cons

You do pretty much EVERYTHING from pricing to customer serice, tech support, price auditing, late night inventories, bank deposits, even pretty much redesigning the store itself and get paid MINIMUM WAGE to do it! If they could hand you a paint brush, a toolbelt, and a ladder they would. They changed the commission structure so even though they still want you to sell their poorly made, grossly overpriced Auvio and Enercell merchandise to profit the store you almost literally make zero off that which was not the case before, oh and they also changed their commission base from cell phone sales so you make significantly less than even a year ago. Bi-weekly pay leaves you broke until you get your floor scraps of a paycheck. Over 3 years so far and not one raise-they don't do raises, ever. Not even to the people that have been here 5+. The new "Wireless Consultant" position takes your opportunity for cell phone commissions directly out of your hands and they get paid a dollar more to boot, so that frees you up for more mindless retail statistic work for MINIMUM WAGE?!?! Guess what happens when you obviously need to get a 2nd job? They cut your hours to the point that it's not even worth working. Don't bother asking for full time, they only go to the state minimum, but in the meanwhile your goals are incredibly high. How else are you going to make them rich practically for free? Don't be a sucker, get a better job that at least pretends like they care about you. Oh and by the way, there's no "Middle class", as in no supervisors or shift leaders for a responsibility or wage bump. It's either Manager making salary so you're either there ALL THE TIME or ALMOST NEVER, which I've had to serve for both. Or you're making MINIMUM WAGE and doing everything. No. Thank. You.

    Pros

In the 80's, a manager was the best paid manager in the mall, many making over 100 grand, margins were in the upper 50's, and in a article in US and World Report, Radio Shack, had more paper millionairs than anyone. Bill Gates approached Radio Shack before going to IBM.

    Cons

Last year 2010 was that of nightmares, yelling screaming at meetings, in thirty years never had recieved a letter of reprimend until 2010 for the smallest reasons even though I was the highest rated Manager in the district and just had won a national sales contest. I compained what was going on and the next day the regional and district manager came to my store, and as one employee discribed acted like terrorist, until I quite. They asked if I wanted to become a District two weeks previous.

    Advice to Management

People are your number one asset trat them better. Einstien said repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a diffrent result is the definition of insanity, you keep pushing wireless more and more as margins go down and down is insane. Black Fridays ad was mostly wireless, who has time to activate phones on black Friday.

    Pros

The people who work at the Shack are some of the most intelligent young people in this country, in an entry level position.

    Cons

The upper level management from the district level and up are a dangerous group to trust. They will constantly set unrealistic quotas for success, and consistently threaten their employees to meet those unrealistic goals or be terminated. The performance based metrics that the corporation use to judge the effectiveness of their employees are always misguided. No one wants to buy service plans on every item in the store yet one of the metrics is always to sell the service plans at a rate of 30%. If no one wants this service why would they require 3 out of 10 customers to buy a useless service. The one thing that illustrates great salesmanship is $$ per ticket and that is never one of the measurements for success. This company is misguided.

    Advice to Management

Start trusting your employees. End the collection of customer information because no one wants to be on any mailing list.
