RadioShack – “RadioShack makes for a low paying summer job. Don't try to make a career out of it.

Pros

There's a laid back atmosphere. Not a lot of people shop at RadioShack (or at least not mine) so you can do a lot of stuff you probably couldn't at other stores. There's a TV and limited internet access plus you can learn about some of the merchandise.

Cons

Cell phones are constantly being pushed. We were supposed to ask every customer about their cellphone. Being pushy is really not the way to win loyal customers. It's okay for them to focus on cell phones but nobody wants to get harassed when they're buying a pack of batteries.

Advice to Senior Management

Just because you're doing something doesn't mean you're doing something helpful. A lot of decisions seemed like they were just there so the district manager could feel like he was doing something. Requiring that everybody use the exact same greeting on the phone probably isn't going to increase sales.
