Former Employee - District Sales Manager in Chicago, IL
Former Employee - District Sales Manager in Chicago, IL

I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

For employees, most stores are atmospheres to expand on selling capabilities and customer relationship building practices.

Cons

Store Managers are required to work too many hours; 48 a week, but more often than not, end up working an average of 52 hours, leaving little time for a home or family life.

Company is downsizing leaving a lot of people out of work

The training program leaves employees unprepared

Overwhelming pressure to meet unrealistic sales quotas with implicit threat of job loss that

Pushy sales tactics to sell "insurance" on almost all products that are sold in the stores, but are difficult and a nuisance to collect on if the need arises

Turnover rate is terribly high due to low pay

Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. I fear for the future of this company.

I have been working at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere. Most of the people are great to work with.

    Cons

High turnover. At the sales associate level: They pay minimum wage, no matter how long you've been there. Constantly changing commission & the goals you have to meet to achieve it. No raises whatsoever. This includes if you become a key holder/person in charge. During the short period they had Assistant Mgrs, they only pay them $8.40/hr. To make up for the raise in pay, you get less commission than the sales associates. Therefore, the pay still equals the same. Even the store managers don't make what you would think is fair, for holding such a position. They dangle the possibility of corporate jobs in front of you. They tell you you can work your way into positions. Even if you are qualified for the position, it is not what you know. It's who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give yearly raises for doing a good job, & for holding positions of higher responsibility. Quit blowing money on things that don't help the company. If less was blown, it could be spent on paying the employees.

I have been working at RadioShack part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Chill environment, associates are cool, at least it is a job.

    Cons

Low pay, commission is mere pennies 2%, management is always down your back on factors that you really can't control, Store is phone driven should be called the PhoneShack. In addition, pay is every 2 weeks and you are forced to make a low paycheck last another 2 weeks. This is a job to keep you afloat until you FIND A BETTER ONE.
