    Largest in Asia-Pacific, but rapid growth comes at the expense of quality

    I have been working at Raffles Education Corp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Extensive network of colleges across Asia-Pacific, which creates opportunities for faculty to move between campuses and countries. Very small class sizes. Modern teaching environment.

    Cons

    Very poor attitude to staff; pretty much zero career progression opportunities; no staff development; teaching 4 terms a year, so hardly any holidays; teaching up to 30 hrs a week (class contact); HR procedures and recruitment not robust; poorly-planned expansion across APAC which is arguably much too fast; very poor quality assurance outside of Aus/NZ;

    Management are so focused on the bottom line that many colleges don't have the equipment or the teaching staff that they need, and there is little regard for educational standards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop looking for ways to make a fast buck in new countries and start ensuring that the colleges that already exist are up to scratch. Aiming for ISO 9001 on every campus would be a good start. Value and invest in your faculty and offer genuine staff development and training.
