Good working environment but promotions seem to be random, not performance-based

I worked at Raising Cane's

Pros

Fun environment with flexible scheduling
Good crew, for the most part
Some of the managers were good
Competitive pay compared to other jobs in the same area

Cons

Promotions seem to be given out randomly to those young and stupid enough to work for less than what the position should actually
Strongly discouraged from talking about pay as new-hires often were paid more than those who had been working for 6-12months!
Raises promised upon interview and hiring but rarely followed through with

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give evaluations/raises when you have promised them. Six months of wage freezes when the company is making a ton of profit? Come on.
Promote those who work hard, not those who will work for less.

I have been working at Raising Cane's

    Pros

This company is the industry standard for customer service and crew culture. The training is never over and the potential for growth is phenomenal.

    Cons

This company is progressing to more locations. It is a growing franchise in Ohio and therefore is looking to lower it's turnover rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management staff should more tailor the training needs of each individual candidate. Prior experience should be an indicator of the potential positions.

Todd Graves had a great vision, upper level management lost sight of it some where.

I have been working at Raising Cane's

    Pros

The company offers great holidays and benefits compared to other companies. The atmosphere is great.

    Cons

The company is super strict and turns something that should be simple and fun into something miserable at times. You always feel like your under the microscope. Shift managers are expected to perform duties that most companies only expect of salaried management. There are not enough managers in most stores. Upper level managers are slow to fill vacant positions, so all the managers may end up working 7 days a week while other managers are in training. Most General Managers and MP's end up spending tons of time in the office because of huge amounts of paperwork, and they have more conference calls then any company I've ever seen. I mean whats more important, customers or conference calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stand back and look at what your doing. Whats going on is not what Raising Canes is supposed to be about.
