I worked at Randa Accessories as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Company culture was fun, most employees were in their early 30's and seemed to like their work and each other. Focused yet relaxed environment!

    Cons

Office building was remote and as employees were often working 10-12 hours a day, an additional 1-2 hour commute left the energy level low. I also felt more qualified than a lot of the full time employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even though there was obvious effort from upper management to be present in the office, there was an uncomfortable separation of power which fostered a sense of mockery rather than respect.

I have been working at Randa Accessories full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pretty standard 9-5 job unless it is market week or you have a big meeting. Office is pretty nice, and they do things like toy drives, nice Christmas parties, Birthday lunches, and flex hours.

    Cons

Ridiculous rules like no plants, no coat on the back of your chair, etc. Everyone walks around miserable, no promotions, you are in no way challenged to be creative, upper management blatantly shows favoritism (ex: will take only certain employees out for happy hour, chit chat and gossip in offices if they like you). Either management gives you no time at all or patrols the office like it's a prison. Sales people seem happy, but any creative roles such as Graphic Designers, Designers, Merchandisers are either creatively stifled or too dumb to notice they are. This is in no way a "fashion" job. Just do as your told, sit behind a desk, log everything you do in plm, and don't you dare come in a minute late (never mind you were there until 10pm the night before) or you will pay through passive aggressive glares from management all day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time mentoring young talent and hiring talented people instead of work horses that cut silk swatches all day. I've seen several extremely talented people from top tier schools leave and go to places where they have gotten paid 2x more. People are willing to work hard if you make them feel valued. Managers are insecure, catty, and micro manage. Jeffrey Spiegel is really brilliant, and seems like a nice guy, but there is very little interaction with him. Of course, some managers are nice- but overall not interested in mentorship.
