Pros

Good location, fantastic people, and a chance to make a difference. I enjoyed working for the company for the most part.

Cons

There is a pall of fear and despair hanging over this company. Randy tries to micro manage everything from another state with limited information and questionable understanding of how things work at the nuts and bolts level. His upper and middle managers live in a constant state of fear knowing that they could be terminated on a whim at any time. Because of this they scramble madly to fix problems that have already been addressed and waste time money and productivity. Their refusal to offer raises has severed the connection between performance and compensation. It has cost them some good people and negatively impacted morale. Judging from the direction that the company is headed you may want to give Randy’s a pass.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell Randy the truth. He may be a genius, but he has no faith in his people. His efforts to micromanage every aspect of his business is costing him money and productivity. In addition you need to restore the connection between performance and compensation or you will be only left with employees with only the most lackluster performances.

    Pros

Randy's is a place where you're expected to work hard and once you've earned the trust of your managers and the support of your peers, you are expected to get involved and help grow the business. I think the people who have negative responses are those who join the organization with the thought of changing everything on day one. You really need to spend the time to understand what's going on before you go and make changes.

Randy is a huge proponent of personal time. In fact, the doors are locked from noon to 1pm everyday and people are asked to leave at 5:30pm so they can close.

    Cons

Management at Randy's can be relentless on tasks and getting things done in a timely manner. But at the same time, this is a privately owned business and it can't grow unless things happen. Every good business requires time and effort to improve. The Egyptians didn't build the pyramids in one day but look at the finished product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your employees the time to learn about the business. Take more time when hiring and get yourself the right people for the job by laying out the expectations and measuring against that.
