Pros

RJ has a small business feel to it, even after it has doubled in size. Most departments understand Work/Life balance and the level of work is just right.

Cons

It is still a few years behind the larger firms, but that is expected.
There have been many changes in middle management and tons of new hires, which has caused the culture to change slightly.

Advice to Management

Do not loose sight of what makes RJ such a great place to work. Continue to keep clients and employees at the top. Diversification is good, but look for more local talent.

    Pros

    Fair pay, good benefits, good hours.

    Cons

    At the home office management is inconsistent. What is ok in one department is "not done" in another department. Supervisors have pet people who are promoted and praised, if you are not a pet person you will know it soon. Supervisors also rely heavily on metrics to measure your performance when, in my experience, much of what is performed cannot be measured accurately using metrics and the employee usually gets under-rated (which make you look like a slacker when you are not).

    Advice to Management

    Go ahead and eliminate middle management - they are useless.

    Pros

    Great opportunity to see the breadth of the business domain for wealth management. High quality professional talent in corporate headquarters in St Petersburg.

    Cons

    Quality of executive leadership is rapidly degrading. Lots of key contributors in technology, operations and product centers are moving on.

    Advice to Management

    Repurpose executive leaders that are not helping the culture to thrive by placing them in roles that have lesser impact on the morale of high quality professional staff or face a continuing exodus of key talent.
