I have been working at Raytheon

Pros

Raytheon has some very interesting projects to work on if you can wait a year or so for security clearances to start coming in. The work can be highly technical and there are opportunities to publish or patent ideas, which the company rewards monetarily.

Cons

The downside is that because the projects are classified, groups within the company are isolated and the opportunities for expanding your network are limited. Promotions seem to occur automatically every other year until you become an E3 or E4 then it becomes competitive with other people in your group and even if you are filling the role of an E5 or E6, you will not be promoted unless there are fewer people at that level in your section and you are outperforming them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

When workers are getting high performance reviews and are filling the roles of higher positions, they need to be promoted even if this is true of several people in the same section. Otherwise employees will quickly become discontent.

I have been working at Raytheon

    Pros

Very good company, while I have only worked at one location I have visited other work sites and the experience has been the same. Lower and upper management is very supportive of their employees.

    Cons

Not a company fault in reality, but as contracts get awarded over time you find yourself with less appealing working/contract conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reconsider Operational Priorities during contract process and reconsider re-classifications of positions as an option (for example where three technicians were needed, now can be used 2 operators and 1 technician) as your systems evolve.

I have been working at Raytheon

    Pros

The best thing about working at Raytheon is the 9-80 work week--every other Friday off. The technology is good. Always opportunities to improve.

    Cons

Even though there are many opportunities to improve, often we are fighting the "status quo" mentality. Sometimes it is difficult to influence change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Right now, I'd say that Raytheon Missile Systems needs to clean house on their IT organization. The IT organization is a constant road block. They don't understand that their role should be more of a service oriented nature.
