Current Employee - Systems Engineer in Indianapolis, IN

I have been working at Raytheon full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Great benefits, most offices allow flexible work schedules or a 9/80 work schedule. Casual work environment and most managers are very approachable.

Cons

It can be hard to move around to different projects, and there are not many opportunities for advancement in the current market. A lot of company practices seem to be old-fashioned, and many teams don't use current industry-wide tools and practices.

I worked at Raytheon as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Raytheon has a lot of great employee networks to get to no others outside of your workgroup and for professional and personal growth. They have a gym and credit union on site (in Tucson). Everyone is helpful and casual, and people are always willing to talk to you about their job so you can continually learn more. The schedule is a 9hrs/day for 9 days (8 hrs during on-Fridays), so that every other Friday is an off-day. AS a bonus, there's a Mexican food truck on-site that is great!

    Cons

After being an intern for four years at Raytheon, I did not get a full time job from them in 2009.

I have been working at Raytheon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting technical work for skilled engineers. Engineering problems are challenging and diverse. Opportunities for professional growth are abundant and there are clearly established career paths to follow

    Cons

The company is very large - upwards of 70,000 employees. In any organization that size, beauracracy becomes entrenched. Raytheon is a very process driven organization. Knowing how to navigate within the process can be frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider making performance bonuses a larger part of the entire compensation package
