There are many opportunities to be found for career advancement if you look in the right places.

Cons

Like any large organization, it can be tough to deal with several layers of management. Raises and promotions are highly dependent on the group you work with and can give individuals very different experiences.

Advice to Senior Management

Reduce the frequency of reorganizations in line management. Switching functional management every 2-3 years is not in the best interests of engineers.
