I have been working at Raytheon full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Flex time, 40 hr work week, supportive management.

Cons

Dilbert-like cubicle environment, working with old tech is useless experience.

Advice to Management

Increase pay drastically and try to foster a more creative and fun environment to attract and retain software talent. Right now many employees think of Raytheon as an employer of last resort.

I have been working at Raytheon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good smart people all around, friendly and always willing to help you with questions. Good benefits. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

Very unreasonable schedules. Estimates made at the beginning of a project before full scope is known are then taken as gospel and written in stone even after new information is uncovered. Employees frequently work on multiple tasks, but the multi-tasking needed is taken to the extreme. Low morale, seems like no one is happy to be there.

    Advice to Management

Either embrace Agile processes and get rid of the old incompatible processes, or don't. Trying to do things halfway is causing unnecessary stress for confused employees who aren't sure what the process is anymore. Proactively offer incentives (not always salary) to key employees instead of reactively trying to keep them when they leave.
