I worked at Raytheon full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Structured environment, somewhat stable in this environment

Cons

Company contracts aren't growing much outside of missile systems, leaving little room for professional growth aside from people leaving, benefit cuts to non-management

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce your bidding rates. There are a lot of people that don't really serve a useful function (i.e. safety officer that can't help employees who work onsite and send out annoying weekly safety tips). Also, HR only does the bare bones - several employees in addition to myself tried to contact them on both phone and email with questions. No response.

I worked at Raytheon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Enjoyed working with very smart people. Work was challenging and satisfying. Learned about many new technologies. Helping to save the lives of men and women in the military -- purposeful mission.

    Cons

Extremely hierarchical and bureaucratic. Lacks innovative ideas in Communications function due to fear of taking risks. VP out of touch with employees who do the real work. Layoff benefits are horrendous unless you are a VP. You get one week per year. Can't sustain yourself while looking for a new job due to sequestration.

I have been working at Raytheon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and depending on your skills there is the possibility for many opportunities

    Cons

Because it is a defense contractor many of the positions are dependent on contracts. Also they are now trying to outsource many jobs to reduce costs. I have also noticed that they are not very many opportunities for those new into their career, most of their positions require 10+ years experience. So if you do get into the company before then you are kind of stuck.
