Rearden Commerce – “For those who like a challenge....”
3 of 20 people found this helpfulPros
Upward mobility. Brilliant coworkers. Flexible work schedule. Huge upside potential, can be a part of the next big thing. Great product and positioning for the current economic climate. Privately held, for now, so there is a wealth of information and visibility you don't experience in public companies. Experience and seasoned managers. Also, if you work hard you get the credit you deserve, but you have to earn it!
Cons
There's a lot of work to be done, so this is not an atmosphere for people looking for a free ride. You have to be willing to put in the extra mile. You can't hide in a sea of other engineers and hope to blend in. I would not say this place has an even work/life balance, so if that's important to you I would recommend looking elsewhere. The product is complex. People unwilling to give the product the appropriate time to reach a clear understanding don't get what we are doing.
Advice to Senior Management
More communication. Strive to over communicate with your team! I'm very satisfied with my manager, although I realize everyone's experience in the company directly correlates to their teammates and managers. Communication is something I value in my manager, and would hope all managers would also have the same level of openness with their team.

1. Flexible work schedule REALLY hit a nerve... It is NOT flexible. You are required to come into the office, work a full day, go home and work all night
-oh... maybe they meant, you have so much work you have to work nights and weekends but... you can do that from home.. yeah, that's it
2. Seasoned managers?! Come on.... that's straight up false. Management is greener than the rolling hills of Scotland - but if you are "seasoned" don't expect to manage, expect the person above you to dictate your every move... Comply or ... you get the idea
3. Next big thing? How long can you hold your breath?

I'm still laughing on the floor after reading what you have written.
I can't wait till I get a reasonable offer from elsewhere. I will be out of there faster than you can say...life, only easier.
Inappropriate?
It is a sinking ship and anyone that says different has consumed so much kool-aid that they have lost all ability to read the writing on the wall.
The concept of an intuitive "Online personal assistant' is nowhere close to being realized at Rearden as Patrick Grady would like to claim. Even the much hyped 'Consumer' launch for 2009 is nothing more than a platform to redeem points for Chase card holders. There is NO revolution here... just lots of hype, broken promises and the worst leadership 100 million dollars can buy.
Inappropriate?
People are running out the door like rats from a $240 million dollar ship!

Failed acquisitions, failed projects, failed funding, failed management, failed company.

"There is a lot of work to be done," right, because the product sucks, full of bugs and the infrastructure is a mess.
"You have to be willing to put in the extra mile", because you are now doing the job of 4 people.
"The product is complex", right, that is why people don't bother using it.
"You work hard you get the credit you deserve?" No, you get fired eventually as the company continues to flounder (unless of course you are friends with the right VP's).
"Huge upside potential, can be a part of the next big thing". I strongly doubt it. Though Grady would certainly like you to believe this.
I hate to break it to you, this company isn't "all that".
