I have been working at Rearden Commerce full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a place to get a paycheck when your Silicon Valley career runs into trouble and you don't want to work fast food. It might be for you if you're in a pinch, don't mind zero career development and understand the realities of falling into one of the three employee groups described below.

    Cons

The rank and file mostly have good intentions and try to make the best of things. Whether they make an impact is the problem. If they're at Rearden because they aren't skilled to enough to work elsewhere, then their good intent is blunted by lack of career development and thoughtful management. As a result, their output contributes to the ongoing poor product quality.

Then there are those who are skilled but havent risen in the Valley for whatever reason. Some of them come to Rearden thinking they can help turn things around and lend their considerable skills but can't get anything accomplished. They also get little management or career development. A select few of these rise incrementally over the years until they finally reach a position of some power...and then they are marginalized until they quit or are fired.

That's because there's a third group of Reardenites who wreck the most havoc: the toadies. The toadies an odd mix of the other two groups but also have the ability to take advantage of the CEOs well documented weaknesses to make hay for themselves. It's often hard to tell if they are actually qualified for their roles, but they do consistently bring outsized egos. The toadies are given generally free reign until it all goes to pot as it historically does every few years.

I worked at Rearden Commerce full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Free wine bar. A few talented engineers here and there.

    Cons

A former employee of Rearden I stumbled onto this company on glassdor, read a few reviews and realized that nothing has changed in the last few years... So I figured that I had to through my experience in the mix of reviews to keep the big picture clear.

There was no clearly defined strategy. Company kept changing direction and jumped from one product to another. Internal policies were soaked with politics. Communication between groups was a total mess. A hiring round would only indicate that layoffs only a few months away.
