A company that feels like a school (and not in a good way)

I worked at Recruit Express full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

- Decent commission if you perform well
- Opportunity to interact with your clients' HR/business managers as well as senior candidates
- Good stepping stone if you're a fresh grad and keen in recruitment on a long term basis

Cons

- Management treats employees like school kids (e.g. pay a fine if you're late for work. I wish i'm kidding)
- Excessive micromanagement from team leaders
- Treats non-confirmed staff like garbage
- Poor benefits (e.g. no off in lieu if a holiday falls on Saturday. Reason being "Saturday is supposed to be a work day")
- Sub-par management, inability to motivate staff
- Too sales driven to the point of entirely forgoing the human element. Sales is king mentality
- Very limited career prospects internally. To progress to a true headhunter, look elsewhere

    A very sales oriented place where you have to compete against one and other and at the mean time have team work.

    Pros

    - Build your confident level
    - Improve your communication skill
    - Learn to manage stress

    Cons

    - Everyone just care about completing the sales.
    - Welfare not provided (Remember to bring your own stationery from home on your first day of work)
    - Sharing of necessary facility (Especially Computer) (Sharing of 1 computer by 4-8 person)
    - Computer speed is rather slow
    - Work from home after work and sometime even weekends due to the lack of facility as well as the competition
    - Dispose of important information (Candidate's resume, other company information) without shredding ( they do not feel a need to spend the money on buying and maintaining it)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - This is the world of Information, 1 staff should have 1 computer. Sharing a computer will not improve productivity but on the other hand decrease.
    - Getting cheap labor is not an option.. Try getting a better database system rather then just the basic FREE and outdated software that come with in the computer

    I worked at Recruit Express

    Pros

    Allows everyday interaction with different people from different walks of life.
    Opportunity to see beyond the office and into the lifes of other environment.
    Rather fast-paced and offers a challenging environment to work in.

    Cons

    Consultants seem more focused on quotas and numbers rather than the needs of the people, which might be attributed to management's intense focus on sales and performance. Lots of incentive for personal gain by throwing in as much numbers of prospects, rather than accessing for suitabilty.

    Certain prejudice against some groups of candidates reflects of either ignorance or unprofessionalisn.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More focus on the human touch rather than a bueracratic mechanism for mass recruiting so that consultants are allowed the freedom to pursue soft approaches instead of hard selling. Create an environment for not just professional growth but personal growth so that the motivation to do a good job goes beyond monetary gains.
