I have been working at Red Hat

Pros

The internal culture at Red Hat is incredibly open and diverse. It is not uncommon to see engineers and "workers" openly criticize management when they feel that a poor decision has been made.

Reliable financials and internal movement means you will never worry about losing your job.

Amazing coworkers and frequently amazing managers.

Cons

Lack of driving technical vision.
Overly conservative investment strategy from senior management when it comes to diversifying the product portfolio or being creative in penetrating new markets or driving deeper into existing markets. (This falls into the "it aint broke, dont fix it" category of business management and Red Hat excels at it - for better or worse)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend money on allowing employees to push Red Hat to the next level. Think Google's model of employees spending time on side projects - don't limit this to programmers / developers either.

    I worked at Red Hat

    Pros

Red Hat is a very good company to work for overall, they allow and encourage staff to grow in a very liberal way.

    Cons

Current Middle East Management is dreadful altough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are very good employees, but also too many prima donnas whos motive is only to show off themselves. The management should be sharper in motivating and retaining good employees and get rid off the 10% useless ones, a bit like Jack Welsh at GE

    I worked at Red Hat

    Pros

    Smart developers.
    Strong Open Source community

    Cons

Company culture of "Collaboration" and "Trust" are bogus. Very little collaboration and the political environment makes the company very distrustful of its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't blow smoke. Follow the culture your promote.
