I have been working at Red Hat full-time for more than a year

Pros

It is a definate meritocracy where your views and comments are considered and listened to. Every associate has the ability to change the company.

Cons

Every one has a voice which means some people can become complete divas. The transition from small company to big one is a little painful but the management are dealing with this in a positve way.

Current Employee - Senior Principal Software Engineer in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Red Hat full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Flexible working hours, high pedigree engineering team, low management interference. Lifestyle - working remotely, etc - and highly encouraged community participation.

    Cons

Below average pay scale, increasingly political environment. Product management wrestling increasing control over upstream open source projects. Somewhat adversarial relationship between business and engineering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay top tier for top tier talent. I've seen far too many smart people leave on account of pay. And remove business-related politics from an engineer's focus.

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more senior people to QA teams and more people to development.
