Pros

The insurance, vacation pay, sick pay and other types of benefits when emergencies arise. It makes it feel like the company cares about you or at least there to help when needed.

Cons

Depending what department you work in, you either get a friendly smile or a judgemental stare. It makes working in the building very uncomfortable. A lot of the judgements are due to pass employees or a biased judgement toward the department as a whole because of the positions held. My department is usually the last to know about events going on.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More positive things need to be said. It helps encourage growth and better attitudes. But also, being able to talk about some of the negative things and being able to explain why it may have happened that way. Not letting things go on for so long that have a very negative impact on the department which causes profit loss.

    Pros

The corporate office offers flexible scheduling. The people are great to work with. Many people have been there a long time, so the confidence factor is high. Praise comes easily

    Cons

As the corporate office is located in Spokane, the salaries are not the highest. Turnover is low, so unless a new position is created, or someone dies, Good luck getting a promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I liked the Where's Waldo we were doing. With the increase in the number of VP's and other upper management, it would be nice to have a little idea of what they all do.

Great coworkers, good company, terrible managers

    Current Employee - Front Desk

    Pros

The employee rate at other Red Lions is wonderful. Most of the coworkers are really great people. Its really easy to sell the rooms because they are so great. Front desk staff has great incentive opportunities. Overall the job is a really easy one, you have a few mean guests which gets difficult sometimes, but an entire shifts worth of work could easily be completed in an hour and a half.

    Cons

The manager expects his managers to do their jobs properly and there isn't a lot of follow up, so the worst managers have no one to answer to. My manager was lazy, and refused to do her own work, often putting it on me to complete. She would only ever do the bare minimum, showing up for work an hour late everyday, but ten minutes before the general manager so it appeared she had been at work the entire time. She never had our schedules made before Friday when the scheduled week ends on Saturday. Its next to impossible to make plans outside of work. The company was very clique-ish. If you were on the inside loop you got taken care of, if not too bad for you. Its the worst management style I have ever seen. The ENTIRE company has received two raises in the past 7 years. Know that your starting wage, will likely be your wage for your entire time there. There is little room for any advancement as the company is struggling financially.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check up on your managers. And surprise inspections are a good thing. And maybe make sure the managers aren't standing over your shoulder as you fill out the anonymous staff surveys, they aren't very honest that way.
