Pros

Wide food selection (salads, steaks, seafood-lobster, crab, shrimp, fresh fish). Diversity of guests. Conscientious managers. High volume business nights and weekends. Flexible work schedule.

Cons

Strict adherence to rules that are not consistent. No more than three guest complaints in year, else fired.

I worked at Red Lobster part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    -free biscuits
-50% food while working (even though it is still expensive)
-25% off at all Darden restaurants

    Cons

-makes servers start out as service assistants even if they have serving experience
-eliminated busboys/food runner position to save money (makes S.A. do everything)
-managers promised promotion to server from S.A. within 1month(took 4 months)
-after passing S.A. test, scheduled server training for TWO hours a WEEK
-over hires so everybody gets very few hours
-grossly overestimated amount of tips servers earn during interview
    -push you to sell add-ons
-gave me an old menu book to study, when many portion sizes and items were different or no longer on the menu
-spent more time doing sidework than actually serving
-staff was not friendly towards new employees
-only allowed a three table section
-constantly had new promotions, and did not inform staff, i would find out about new promos through the Red Lobster mailing list
-older servers often look down upon new employees
-very specific dress shirt (button on collar, one pocket, specific material)
-when training, I was given no guidance whatsoever (given a menu to memorize and that's it)
-very strict (even though its supposed to be a "casual" dining concept)
-made you tip out alley coordinators
-alley coordinators would stop you, even if you were busy, to have your run other peoples food (because SA's were too busy bussing tables to run food)

Overall, It was an absolute nightmare working for Red Lobster. NEVER accept a job as server assistant if you have previous serving experience. I would not recommend working for this restaurant to anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't be cheap and hire busboys, server assistants already have too much to do!
