    Pros

    Excellent Euro-style benefits, Global reach

    Cons

Clueless stateside management, Horrible HR policies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to standardize compensation among all units. All brands and locations require fine-tuning.
The evaluation process, requiring a bell-shaped curve of performance, restricts honest appraisal, insults the outstanding and rewards the mediocre.
Hiring freezes keep bad employees in place while restricting the recruitment of quality new hires.

I have been working at Reed Business Information

    Pros

    Nice environment
    Nice colleagues
    Good level of professionality
Good balance between professional and private life
If you love publishing and magazines, it is still a good place to work for

    Cons

Poor salary expectations, especially after the downsizing because of the crisis
It is not always clear how people make career improvements
It is hard to get a clear feedback from a manager about your job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the management is composed by good professionals, ready to face up with new projects and new issues. This is a good thing but most of them still feel not so comfortable to manage people and their needs. Sometimes, it would be better to be honest about feedbacks and promotions, for instance. At the very same time, if you cannot offer salary raises or career improvements, at least it would be enough to get good feedbacks and occasions to learn new things: this is a costless thing and it can motivate the team.
