I have been working at Reid Hospital

Pros

Patients are number one- hands down- the reason for being there, but there was lots of personal pride for the JACHO certification in all departments, ongoing monthly training, rediness support that crossed over departments, Lots of wider community involvement and educating for promoting good health and self advocacy. Good team comraderie, too.

Cons

If out visiting a remote home visit and weather turns bad, have to be prepared to stay- but that would only be very rare, also, lots of travel time- ok if weather is good, but I have had to scrape ice off windows and doors of car to get back in after home visits. (This is job specific)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the awesome leadership! Having regular weekly team meetings in depts. keeps staff connected, and always feel free to look in HR, visit or check other dept openings / possible promotions, etc. Always felt well supported.

I worked at Reid Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Largest employer in wayne co

    Cons

Senior management published in local paper that they took a 5% cut across the board to help the organization although they did not want published nor did they offer to publish that they received their 5% back at fiscal year end and compensated their 5% "reward" by cutting addition ancillary staff, nursing, and benefits. Reid use to be a good environment to work in but do to lack of strong leadership, punitive work environment, poorly trained staff, and no nursing autonomy the milieu is no where near the professional level of other hospitals. Just in the fact that senior management wanted published how they were willing to take a 5% pay cut and wanted this broadcasted to the community knowing that they were going to get the 5% back at year end shows the type of leadership this organization is working under

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire CEO and work your way down. Too many VPs. Senior management inept to handle responsibilities professionally. Provide nursing autonomy to practice within their scope and to be able to make clinical judgements without fear of punitive retaliation. Wayne co citizens need to know how this non profit organization is working in their community. Also take a peak at the 1099 for this non profit organization. You will be shocked at what upper management is getting paid although non profit

I have been working at Reid Hospital as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good environment to learn and gain experience in. The staff I work with operate as a unit with a common goal.

    Cons

It is a large organization that has very separate departments with different priorities. Sometimes it is difficult to relay information to a different department and trust that it will be passed along to future shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to create/maintain the environment that makes employees want to start right out of school and retire from there. Benefits and rewards encourage loyalty.
